Advanced Manufacturing
Technology Transfer Centers

Switzerland has a long tradition in developing and applying advanced manufacturing technologies. Around the world, "Made in Switzerland" stands for superior product quality. In addition, Switzerland is heading the global innovation rankings since many years. However even in Switzerland, advanced manufacturing technologies that have been developed in pre-competitive research projects and new materials, processes or products whose feasibility have been proven by lab-scale prototypes and demonstrators must still take further steps and clear additional hurdles before they can be applied by industrial companies.

For these important steps towards a successful technology transfer, specific infrastructure, e.g. pilot plants, as well as knowledge of how to operate such infrastructure are needed. Today such technology transfer infrastructures often do not exist, either in research institutes or in industry, or else are not available to the scientific and technical community in Switzerland. This has motivated us to start an initiative to establish advanced manufacturing technology transfer centers (AM-TTC) in Switzerland. The initiative aims to close this gap in the innovation process between lab research and industrial application by operating a network and alliance of centers which offer an open access to such technology transfer infrastructures.

Close The GAp
The mission of the AM-TTC initiative is to close the gap between lab scale research and industrial applications. The initiative aims to build the competences and facilities that are currently missing to upscale and transfer new manufacturing technologies from science into industry.

Collaboration
Along Value Chains
along Value Chains
The initiative will foster and facilitate the collaboration of all players along value and supply chains. In the technology transfer centers, raw material and equipment manufacturers as well as production companies can use state-of-the-art pilot plants and facilities to jointly develop the next generation of materials, manufacturing technologies and products.

Partnerships
As the technology transfer centers will be positioned between public research organizations and industrial companies, the centers will be established as public-private partnerships where both - the public domain as well as the private sector - fund the buildup and the operation of these centers.
On this web site, you will find information about the association "AM-TTC Alliance" which is the governing body of the inititative, information about how to become a member of the association, information about the application process to become a technology transfer center of the AM-TTC Alliance as well as information about planned or already established centers and their consortia of partners from science and industry.

Two New Centers
End of 2022, the SERI and the AM-TTC Alliance decided to fund two further centers: one in the field of cobotics and one in the field of photonics.  You will find further information in this press release (EN, DE, FR, IT)
Second CAll launched
Together with its funding partners the SERI and the ETH Board, the AM-TTC Alliance launched the second call for proposals in September 2021. The aim is to establish two or three additional AM-TTC in Switzerland. You can find more information here.
